Are you free?

Are you afraid to open your voice around others, Reader?

I was (and still am a bit!).

This is one of the biggest blocks to our freedom.

For 22 years I was shut down to all forms of singing around others after being told by a friend I was off key. This was after many “accomplishments” with my voice in high school as a member of an elite traveling paid choir and a soloist (despite raging anxiety every time)!

It affected way more than just my ability to sing. It affected the way I communicated and how I spoke up for myself (or didnt), and even how I valued myself, as a downhill affect from the other aspects.

The singing wound is intense, and it can affect ANYONE.

If someone told you that your voice wasn’t good enough, or you've always felt like you "just can't sing" then you’re invited to reclaim it during a day retreat on September 13th, guided by women who have experienced the power of song.

I met Sofia Dugas at a week-long community singing intensive last summer in a burst of courage to face one of my longest-running fears: singing around other people.

Six months later, in the middle of a hotel conference room with tables and chairs moved aside to make space for a circle, Sofia and I co-led a 200+ person song circle with Tarzan Kay that shared simple songs with lyrics like -

I’m not alone

We come together

What the world needs now is joy in resistance

The feedback was incredible:

"I wasn't sure what to expect at the song circle, but as soon as [they] began singing I was immediately drawn in.”

“I'm not a singer and this was my first time witnessing the healing power of song.”
“I walked away feeling lighter and more connected to myself and others than I had in a long time and I know others felt the same too."

Science* is clear that group singing is one of the most powerful ways to experience social connection and soothe our nervous systems.

The pure joy, peace, and connection in that room was magic.

I want you to experience that magic too, Reader.

So... Sofia and I are co-hosting a retreat together, and you’re invited!

But don't worry, there will not be microphones!

This will be a very intimate small group of humans, ready to share our fears and voices.

This retreat also goes deeper than song, exploring your vocal freedom through movement, journaling, ceremony, and 2 shared meals that are locally sourced and lovingly made by yours truly (me, Kendra).

"I don't even want to touch that kind of grief, and I've seen it all." My head turned slowly to the elder sitting beside me. Her voice was solemn, so serious it almost scared me. We were sitting at a dinner table, with about 9 of the 52 humans who had just spent a week singing together at a beautiful retreat center in the eastern woodlands of New York state. Conversation was circling round as we each shared what we do…besides singing! I said that I am an ecological consultant, write a...

A few years ago, Tyler (my beloved partner) and I were visiting friends who have walked the road of life for much longer than we have yet (and are deeply tied to the land). This wiser couple was laughing and tenderly responding to each other, while also having critical moments that didn’t hold resentment, just a practical respect and openness to each other’s needs and moments of truth. We loved what we were witnessing, so we asked them what they thought were some of the most important things...

HEY Reader, Are you feeling less sharp and focused than ever? Well, I am! And I don't like it! I’ve been feeling brain foggy, challenged in my ability to focus, and more forgetful… …maybe it’s perimenopause (maybe it’s maybelline), but I think it’s also the inundation of so many kinds of new technology… (and maybe we are being gaslit by all these other diagnoses). A few months ago, I picked up this incredible book called Human Being by Graham Lee. In each chapter, Lee explores 12 vital skills...
