What I DO (when I want to doom-scroll)

Hello Reader,

As you well know, there is a lot going on in the world right now. Most of it is big, heavy, and challenging to process.

It is incredibly easy (and completely normal) to get stuck in the trauma responses. Whether it’s doom-scrolling online or angry-ranting with friends.

If you remember my previous email about the freeze state, you know I believe these responses are ancient and protective. But while survival responses keep us safe, they don’t exactly help us to thrive.

I’ll be honest - I get caught in it too. Sometimes I even ask myself if EarthCare really matters. And that's ok.

But, eventually we need something to DO. With our hands, our heads, and our hearts.

Even if a tiny voice says “does any of this really matter?” another part of me (my body) knows that tending the land around us is one of the most important things we can do for our health and our collective future.

The land is not something separate from us to manage for our benefit. We are Nature. Our bodies are made of this Earth. When ecosystems are healthy, we are healthier because we are part of it.

EarthCare is self-care and community care.

We can’t solve the polycrisis single-handedly (obviously, haha). But we can choose joy, put our hands in the Earth, and trust that our actions do make a difference. They really really do, friends.

If you’re looking for a way to move out of the fight-flight-freeze-fawn response and support the budding seeds beneath the soil, I am sharing some events below to help you take mindful action this Spring in connection with others.

Whether you're a local, a DIYer, or an aspiring ecological practitioner, I hope you’ll choose one resource from this newsletter to help you take one small step – and feel welcome to invite your friends!

For Ecological Professionals

We are currently living through a convergence of collapse and awakening. While ecological systems are under stress, public consciousness is shifting. Many homeowners are trading manicured lawns for living landscapes.

The market is shifting in our favor, but ecological practitioners are burning out because the business side is overwhelming. The sensitive, skilled stewards who care most are leaving the field, and it is you we need most.

I’ve recently updated my blog, Why we need EarthCare Professionals NOW, to give aspiring, active, or burnt-out ecological professionals hope and resources so you can continue doing the work you love without sacrificing yourself for the planet. I had to learn this the hard way, so I hope you join me to thrive together.

130p ET - March 19th | OPEN EarthCare Professionals Roundtable

This is a free virtual gathering for ecological designers, landscapers, and land stewards who are interested in growing their business skills and being a part of the rising solution to the ecological crisis.

I am opening up the EarthCare Professionals Collective this Spring by invitation only. Come and find out if it might be a good fit, and connect with other ecological professionals committed to making a difference.

This is typically a private event for members only, but I am opening it up to anyone interested in seeing what we do, this month only. Membership is currently by invitation only, so please show up to meet us.

So here's my latest creation!

📍 FREE Virtual Workshop | April 9 and 23, 2026 | Plan Your 2026 EarthCare Journey

  • Audit your resources to understand what’s realistic for your Place and your life

How Else Can I Support You?

Would you be interested in a Grief & Song Circle?

Thanks to an influx of replies from my newsletter on grief, I’m considering hosting a Grief and Song Circle around Earth Day. Would you be interested in a space to metabolize your grief through song and community?

>> Reply YES + whether you’d prefer a local or virtual song circle.

Are you interested in a workshop on Building Memorial Gardens?

I've had a number of folks mention this lately, and a few really key resources come my way, since training as a Death Doula in 2024 with Erin Merelli. We are talking this week about a collaboration on this topic, and I would love to hear if you'd like to attend.

>> Reply YES + tell me more about your desire for a Memorial Garden workshop.

Are your Focus and Memory concerning you?

I've been studying this topic and learning how directly related this is to the distance we've created between ourselves and the land. The more we use AI, try to multi-task and override our body's needs, living in separation from Nature, the worse our focus and memory get. And this affects us all far more than we realize.

As you've heard, my partner Tyler Yenna has been studying this topic for years, and he's gearing up to offer some workshop teasers as well as a Memory 101 class soon. Would you be interested in attending?

>> Reply YES + share more about your memory concerns.

🤝 Share Another Opportunity!

Do you have an event, newsletter, or offer that aligns with the EarthCare mission?

I’d love to share more opportunities in this space.

>> Email me to discuss how we can promote each others work.

Together, we can tend to the land, each other, and our futures.

I hope to see you at one of these events, and hear from you in a reply this week.

Stay wild,

Kendra

P.S. If you missed the deep dive into grief, you can read it here. But then, seriously, go put your hands in some soil, sit on the porch in the rain, and observe Nature in your Place. It really does help.

Last week, I shared what I think the world needs NOW… TLDR; In the midst of corruption and our collective grief in response to it, what we need more than ever is JOY in resistance and REUNION. I got so many beautiful replies - thank you all for your patience as I find time to reply! Near the end of every winter I start to face this big, ugly, raw feeling inside of "what the heck am I doing here anyway?" It's valid, I mean, what the heck are...

Did someone forward you this email? Subscribe here. Hello Reader, I got out to my yard this weekend, for a reprieve from the world’s chaos. 10/10 recommend, regardless of weather. It was cold and rainy, but we cleaned out the bird boxes, so they can build new nests this spring. Then we added to the compost, admired some deer and rabbit tracks, and sat on the porch with bird seed in hand, hoping to make a few new friends. My wildflower meadow last week - in its sepia-tone glory, feeding the...

Dear Reader, As the earth sleeps and the places we tend are blanketed under snow, we hope that you are spending time resting, observing, and enjoying Nature this winter as well. There is a bright red cardinal that frequents an elderberry shrub by my kitchen window. I learned his call and enjoy his “company” through these shorter, dark days. He has trusted this space for years, always returning for more food, as my meadow expands each year. If you are like me, you have every intention of...
